China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC)

CATARC assists the Chinese government in formulating auto standards and regulations
Since 2006, the Energy Foundation has invested $750,000 in CATARC programs that address fuel efficiency and cleaner-burning vehicles

Results

China’s fuel economy standards are now higher than those in the U.S. for passenger and light-duty commercial vehicles
By 2015, the standards could improve the efficiency of China’s fleet by 15%
Currently developing incentives to promote hybrid-electric vehicle technologies
